Monday, Sept 1st – It was another hot and sticky
night, we had been conserving our water but this morning we said, ‘screw
it’…got up before 08:00, released the mooring lines and headed to the dock to
fill up our water tank. Mooring was easy with little wind and no current. We
both enjoyed a shower and went back to bed. While relaxing in the cockpit,
several ladies paddled by, stopped to say hello; Betsy was one of them and
offered again to take us for groceries and mentioned they did not have our
club’s (Etobicoke Yacht Club) burgee; I replied, “We were just writing our
clubs name on one now”. Julie met Betsy at 13:30 before the party and ran to
the grocery while I stayed under the tent to socialize.

Fellow members entertained the party; Richie, the DJ sang
karaoke for 5 hours…this guy was good and kept everyone entertained…what a
great asset to have for a club! Others would also take the mic for a few songs,
all very good singers but the best was a 7 year old that sang a song from
Frozen (recent animated Hollywood movie), she left tears in our eyes. At dusk,
the club fired off a cannon, stood at attention, played the American Anthem and
lowered the flag…it’s always moving when any country shows the pride and love
they have for their country.

Then Richie picks up the microphone, points us out
by saying we have some guests from Canada with us today; thanks us for being
here and then proceeds to play Oh Canada which everyone respectfully stood up
for…I looked to the Commodore and give him a node of appreciation…what a class
act! A small crowd of people we met came to us to shake our hand and wish us a
safe trip. We were overwhelmed by the warm hospitality we received from the
Richmond County Yacht Club members…they insisted that we stop again on our way
back to Canada, which we have already decided is a must.
Our weather window is opening for a Wednesday departure...
