Crab on the water!

Downtown St. Michaels
On this sunny day, we dropped our dinghy and headed in to St. Michaels with our backpacks of course. We tied up on the dinghy dock by the Crab Claw Restaurant around 10:00 – there since 1964. We had a reservation for 13:00, so now we had time to explore the town. We walked this nice little town, scoped out the grocery -  to be our last stop before going back to the boat. We came across the Saturday farmers market and picked up a few veggies. There happened to be a fair this day. Vendors were setting up their tents to sell their wares, with 6 different bands playing throughout the day; they also had the typical food vendors…reminded me of the local carnivals we had growing up, but without the rides.

High tide coming
It didn't take long to cover the town; we even walked some of the residential back streets…not like the new subdivisions back home, every house different and built 50-100 years ago; some you can’t believe that people live in them. We arrived at the Crab Claw for lunch just before noon, had our pick of tables…right on the edge of the dock by the water…primo spot! The placed filled up quickly. We ordered drinks, soft shell crabs and 4 regular crabs for cracking open. The sun was out, we had nowhere to be, so we ordered 6 more crabs and sat for the next 3 hours

picking them. This was literately all about sitting on the water eating crabs as the tide continued to rise and watching jelly fish come through the deck…happens about twice a year.

We walked a couple of blocks to the grocery and stocked up on fruits and veggies; we still had lots of meat in our freezer. The tide was flooding more than just the restaurant, the dinghy dock was now a foot higher than the sidewalk. The sea was encroaching on the the streets...

Under water
we just walked through the warm water with our sandals on.

By sunset, there were 20 boats anchored outside of St. Michaels. We were in bed at our now usual time of 22:00.
