When I awoke on Thursday, I took care of a couple little
projects like replacing our forward running light (red and green light on the
bow used for night) with a low power LED light. I had replaced all my interior
and exterior lights with LED’s. Now when I turn them on the Amp-meter doesn't
move…they barely use any power!
Adam and Laura were anxious to get a few lessons on sailing Prism
so we took the opportunity. First, instructions on lifting the anchor, and then
we motored out from our protected anchorage and they took turns raising and
dropping both sails. We tacked (turned up across the wind, swung the sails to
the other side of the boat) a few times before I jumped into our dinghy and
headed back to enjoy the afternoon with Julie and they continued on sailing for
a couple more hours.
Julie and I tackled a not so pleasant job of unclogging the
vent hose to our aft waste tank. This issue restricts the ability to properly
pump out our waste tank…this is accomplished by a large suction hose that
connects to an access port on the deck. If the tank doesn't vent properly the
suction hose can’t suck out the waste. I won’t get in to the details except it
took some clean up afterwards….then we went for a swim!
Friday, Julie and I were up a little early, lifted anchor
and were about to head to Gananoque for pump out and water, but not before Adam
hailed us for one last charge to start his engine. Quickly he was on his way to Treasure Island
Marina and us towards Gananoque before heading to the same.
All went well with the pump out…we could hear the vacuum
from the vent hose working perfectly…a successful pump out! We also feel good
when we get to unload our garbage…this is something we will need to get better
at…not bringing garbage onboard in the first place…who wants rotting garbage
sitting on their boat when anchored in a secluded lagoon for a week in the
Caribbean! (Not us)
The seas were very calm as we motored a couple hours to Treasure
Island. We anchored and called Adam
regarding their whereabouts…they were in the Marina just about to eat lunch. By
13:00 we dinghied into the Marina and
Adam lent us his car for us to run some errands (BestBuy, Costco, Walmart,
Batteries store and West Marine) in Kingston. We were rushed because our
friends, Odile and Bruce were to arrive by 15:00…well, Odile being from Trinidad,
(Trini’s are known for being late) she arrived after 17:00. Adam & Laura
decided to stay at the Marina that night to replace their batteries and give
them a good charge while plugged in to AC Power at their dock. They enjoyed the
dinghy ride out and around Treasure Island and couldn't wait to relax on
BoomDeYada with a drink in hand. Graham
and Diana also joined us at anchorage that evening and by the time we finished
our dinner, their lights were out so the four of us chatted until 01:00.
The high pressure system was providing such nice weather…and
what a great way to start a weekend. The mornings are so nice with blue skies
and dead calm seas…so quiet and peaceful…you can hear the Loons in the
distance. However, this morning, it was a big charity poker run for the loud ‘go-fast’
boats…what a show and what a noise. There must have been 40-50 that soared by
with 200 foot rooster tails behind them…a helicopter filming in hot pursuit. We all commented if they were to take the
money that they burn in fuel and then all the spectators fuel and donated that…anyway,
this went on all day. We didn't let that stop us from doing exactly what you're suppose to do on one of these days...absolutely nothing...we lazed in the sun, Odile, a hair-dresser by trade, cut Julie's hair on the stern, they swam to the land (I paddled the dinghy along side), we drank and ate. Odile and Bruce decide to stay another night before going on to Montreal, so we decide to stay put by Treasure Island for a second night. Adam and Laura anchored by us around 18:00, we picked them up and the six of us cooked dinner and played a game of Scrabble...another late night...looking forward to a liver detox soon!
