Waterford - one more lock to go!

Wednesday, August 20th
We pushed off @ 7:45 to meet the opening of lock 7, which was only 3 miles down the canal. With Schiffli behind us, the lock was a breeze…with no wind. Another 10 miles to reach ‘The flight’ – lock 6, 5, 4, 3 & 2 which are consecutive locks which drop us down 169 feet…one lock after the next - east bound…we will transit all 5 locks before west bound traffic can proceed…and into Waterford for the night. A short day today, arrived at 12:30 and docked at another 8 foot wall for the night. We arranged to be by a ladder this time so we can easily get off the boat.

The day was hot and humid, we sat on the grass relaxing and later went into town to stop at a bar called McGreivey’s Pub recommended by my brother and then on to the grocery. We always travel by foot with our back-packs ready for anything we may pick up along the way.

After dinner, drinks were on Schiffli…we sat in the dark as the bugs were attracted to the light. We said our last good bye and retired for the night…we wanted to leave early the next morning to catch the tidal currents. Rain was expected, but not enough to stop us from pushing on.
