New boatfriends

Up at 03:30 from the wind howling. Checked the trusty hand-held GPS a dozen times, at first it looked like we were dragging but it was the accuracy of the unit that made it appear we were dragging; it appeared so because I was at the back of the boat in bed...we were secure and not dragging...went back to sleep. By morning it was calm and a beautiful blue sky.

We grabbed a quick bowl of nutrition (nuts, cranberries, berries, chia seeds and slices of banana) with coconut milk (seems to be our breakfast of choice these days), threw our backpacks, life jackets and charts in the dinghy and headed towards Gananoque, Ontario. Before we knew it we were across the channel from the town of Gananoque. The municipal marina is large and very busy, boats constantly coming and going for fuel, pumpout, water or to stay a while. We tied up our dinghy on the public dock, locked it and headed into town for groceries. It certainly is a beautiful little town (maybe city, I don't know?). We also scoped out the pumpout (where boats go to remove their bathroom waste) and more water for our tanks...we will need these services real soon and it's usually a tight area to manoeuvre a 45ft sailboat as we don't have twin engines, and therefore two props that make it easy to manoeuvre.

Upon our return to Boomdeyada, an American boat with their mast horizontal and secured in horses had anchor by us...they just came up the Hudson River and through the Erie Canal...same place we are heading in a few weeks. We passed by to check out their design and two 25 year old girls waved and welcomed us to chat. They were quite nice so we invited Katie and Jessie to join us on Boomdeyada for cocktails...we enjoyed their company so much they stayed for dinner and we chatted until 23:00. They headed back to their 27ft. sailboat named Lousie, on their kayak. For the last two years they have been navigating the great loop, which is down the Mississippi, around Florida, stopping in the Bahamas, north up the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway), up the Hudson River and Erie Canal, through the Trent waterway and in to Lake Michigan where they begun and will end their journey. It's was calm clear night, no moon; the stars are great to look at when conditions allow you to see the Milky Way. Shortly after crawling into bed, the dinghy was chattering more since I did not lift the outboard motor onto Boomdeyada....Julie and I got up and dressed, lifted the motor and hung the dinghy in her davits (like metal cranes that lean-out over the water to hoist your dinghy).....aaah, back in bed and silence (silence is good as it allows you to hear other things that go bump in the night).
