We woke up well rested after a cold and windy night to the warmth of a heated cabin and sunshine. Everyone around here is wearing winter coats and gloves. Julie and I decide to go investigate the town of Beaufort. However, the courtesy car that had been offered to us was in use. TJ the Harbor Master, who looks like Ryan Reynolds offered to drive us.

We invited him to have lunch with us at the restaurant called
Q on Bay, owned by TJ's friend, Jason who we met the night before. But first, we parked his truck and visited TJ's wife at her art gallery...Elena was busy preparing her work for an art show in Columbia, SC... what a sweetheart.
The Q on Bay is much larger than we had imagined. It has a beautiful large patio out back that looks over the river (ICW). Jason, who sounds just like Boomhauer from King

of the Hill, has owned and operated Q on Bay for 3.5 years with great success...Q is short for BBQ and he smokes a lot of what he serves; truly the best wings we have ever had.

TJ drove back to the Marina, Julie and I walked the town, stopped at local watering holes and wandered the streets of the historic part of the neighbourhood, which was built around time of the civil war...beautiful southern plantation style homes. We love the Spanish moss hanging from the huge old Oak trees.

It was only a 15 minute walk back to the marina from town that took us over the swing bridge.
TJ came by for a drink at the end of his day and invited us over to their house boat for drinks later. He stayed for more than one and Julie went to pick up Chinese food 10 minutes away. Once Elena arrived home from work we went to their house boat that TJ made himself. It was like a NYC apartment, not like a boat at all. They live here with their 16 year old daughter, who they home school and their dog, Rudder. TJ invited us to stay longer - until Thanksgiving. Julie and I discussed it later that night and decided to change our plans and slow our travels down...we will stay. We will also not rush to get to the Bahamas by mid December and instead visit my parents in Florida for xmas. This gives us plenty of time to visit my other cousins along the East coast of Florida...it's great having no fixed agenda.
